Come knit a sweater with me in Petaluma
I am so grateful to share a collaboration with Alisha Bright, the owner of Fiber Circle Studio in Petaluma, a fellow Fibershed producer and now a dear friend. Alisha has created a unique space where a fiber learning community is built within an environment of special yarns and creative goods, each item of which brings a story of intention, careful production and empowerment. As a female entrepreneur, she is always looking for ways to support and uplift her suppliers, her customers and her staff. It is a special hub and I feel so lucky to be able to teach there in 2023.
It was with enthusiasm that I found a partner in Alisha to work on developing a garment curriculum that has been knocking around in my ‘notes’ for a long time. Essentially it was to teach the ‘tools’ that might allow a knitter to identify and thus create, the ‘sweater in your head’. We have all experienced the dismay of visualizing ourselves in the sweater design we fall in lust with only to find it doesn’t quite look like that vision when we finally get it on our bodies.
From January through March 2023, we will meet every third week for 4 sessions at Fiber Circle Studio and knit a sweater together. In this first part of a Sweater Workshop Series, we will focus on 4 topdown seamless bodice shapes and use them to explore how to analyze patterns relative to our own bodies. The goal is to develop a step-by-step pathway to understanding how to ‘see’ a pattern on ourselves - and manifest that ‘sweater in your head’. This Knitalong is going to be relaxed, supportive and fun. It will not be a boot camp - but we will cover substantive information and skills. You do not have to come into this class knowing everything! Whether you are a seasoned knitter, or approaching your first sweater, you will benefit from this series. By design, the class will be small to make space for in depth questions and discussions.

I will be teaching this series, and Alisha and the welcoming staff at Fiber Circle will be not only hosting - but supporting you to find the most appropriate yarns and tools for success. We are all committed to that ‘sweater in your head’ and we look forward to creating it with you.
I wish you all cosy and bright times with your beloveds … and then to see you on January 14 in Petaluma to create a beautiful sweater together!
