Aleks Byrd is coming!!!!
Let’s celebrate the return of residential knitting retreats in Marshall, California at our beloved Marconi Historic State Park with Aleks Byrd on August 29-September 1! We will learn about the fascinating traditions and techniques of Estonian knitting and how to do them. I am pinching myself for this chance to host (and share!) Aleks Byrd and celebrate her recently published (absolutely gorgeous) book, “Traditions Revisited: Modern Estonian Knits”
Estonian knitting is characterized by the colored embellishments of its surfaces. These ‘embroidered’ regional inspirations are distinctive and tell a story. Unlocking the secrets of being able to create them in your own knitting (and execute them effectively!) is the goal of this Retreat. Aleks is designing a project that will allow us to knit our own accessory using all the techniques in her book during our time at the Retreat. It’s an irresistible opportunity and the only stop on the West Coast of her summer tour (which has just started in Europe). Find out more about the Retreat here.
We will return to Marconi Historic State Park, a location of simple tranquillity and natural beauty for days of knitterly focus and community and I really hope you can make it.
I encourage you to make your bookings sooner rather than later because there is strong interest in the teacher and the curriculum and I expect to fill fast. I am going to open the booking page to newsletter readers first before I make any ‘public’ announcement, so that you won’t be disappointed - and if you can’t make a firm booking right now, but know you would like to consider it seriously, please email me so we can discuss. I am more than happy to work with you for a reasonable ‘hold’ while you think about it. You can book now here.

Bring a non-knitting friend:
We are offering the option of a non-knitting companion at this Retreat. Retreat participants will meet in our own free standing house on the park property for all the knitting activities and socialising. which allows for a companion to enjoy themselves independently. Accommodations are located a short walk from the Retreat space and from the dining room allowing your companion (and you!) independent access to your room and the dining room. Accommodations and three meals a day will be included for your companion who can enjoy the chance to experience this magical part of the Coast while we knit together. There is a specific option for Retreat plus one on the Book Now page (there is an add on of $300 to the Single Occupancy Rate)
Traditions Revisited: Modern Estonian Knitting
There is an option to buy a copy of “Traditions Revisited, Modern Estonian Knitting” and have it waiting for you when you arrive at the Retreat. Email me if you are interested in this option.
Of course, if you already own this gorgeous book, you should certainly bring it with you - the author can sign your copy!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. As always, thank you for your support and enthusiasm. I look forward to spending time with you in August and until then, be well and happy knitting.
