Out of Africa: The magic of Wishbone yarns

Nestled into the expanses of the Karoo is a hamlet called Prince Albert. And there lies the home (and dye shed) of Lily Turner, the magician behind Wishbone Yarns. Inspired and sustained by the palette of her environment (and surrounded by flocks of merinos), she dyes yarn. And magic happens. Knitters have been drawn by her beautiful Instagram feed and her eye opening interpretations of designs. Everything we see is created by her two hands, so there are natural limits to how much of these artisanal yarns are available at her monthly updates. She has developed devoted customers, some of whom have become not only supporters, but friends. It’s time for us to get together in real life!

After almost a year of working towards coming to the US, Lily has flights and visas in hand and will make the long journey to California at beginning of October. What a treat for us!

We want to make these get togethers as cosy and casual as possible and with that in mind, there will be two small-in-numbers one day events in San Anselmo (located in central Marin County, about 40 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge). Lily will share her yarn story, her inspiration and her process. As always, there is a special project Lily has designed for us (and a story to go along with it!!), a delicious lunch in a charming, peaceful environment and yarns and a trunk show (see those incredible garments from Instagram in person!) to round out the experience.

The San Anselmo Inn is our location for these days. It is an historic Inn on the Main Street of a lovely town - plenty of fun shops and places to eat in walking distance if you choose to stay over or extend your time in the Bay Area. San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley and the wild West Marin coast are all easily accessible, the fog cools us but is not evident in our blue and sunny skies and wine country is not far away. All in all, a perfect destination - and off the beaten tourist path!

Don’t miss this rare chance to learn more about a far flung corner of our knitting world and knit together in company as we do. I look forward to being with you. You can find the details here and book here.
